Data sources and licensing
Where the records come from
The catalogue is compiled primarily from first-party records — titles DSBBD publishes or distributes — together with information supplied directly by publishers.
Where a record originates from a third-party source, that is noted on the record itself and the external reference is linked rather than copied.
How records are verified
- Every ISBN is validated against its check digit. Identifiers that fail are held back rather than published.
- ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 forms of the same book are reconciled to a single record, so one book never appears at two addresses.
- Hyphenated ISBN forms are generated from the official ISBN registration-group ranges. Where a range cannot be resolved, only the unhyphenated form is shown rather than a guessed grouping.
- Publisher names are stored exactly as supplied and grouped by a derived key, so a spelling variation never silently becomes a second publisher.
Using this data
Bibliographic facts — ISBN, title, publisher, edition, year, page count — are not creative works and you are welcome to reference them. Cover images and descriptions belong to their publishers and authors; ask them, not us.
For a bulk extract or an API arrangement, email info@dsbbd.com rather than crawling the site.
Corrections
If a record is wrong, tell us. If you are the rights holder for a cover or description you would rather we did not host, say so and it will be removed.
